About
the legend of joey hand
Joey Hand made his move to sportscars after three seasons in Toyota Atlantic competition, and has been winning races and competing for titles ever since.Motorsport is a family tradition in the Hand household. His father made a name for himself as a successful stock car driver. Soon after, Joey would launch his career in karting before taking a step up to single–seater racing.
2004 brought a new start for BMW on the GT racing scene. Hand ended his debut season in the Grand–Am Series with one win and six podium finishes. After a stint with Panoz, Hand returned to BMW in 2009. Together with Auberlen he helped the team to its first victory in the GT class, a pole position, and the fastest lap in Mid-Ohio.
Hand enjoyed a year of firsts in 2011. Starting with an overall win in the Rolex 24 at Daytona, the 32-year old Californian added a 12 Hours of Sebring victory with BMW teammates Dirk Müller and Andy Priaulx. Hand and Müller would go on to two more GT wins and an additional three podiums, shared at the ALMS GT Driver's championship. Hand also earned his first start at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, finishing third with Müller and Priaulx.

2010 American LeMans Series GT - Rahal-Letterman Racing, Dirk Muller Co-Driver, four podium finishes including 1st at Road America & 3rd at Sebring. Turner Motorsports Continental Tire Challenge Series resulting in six podium trips, 1st at Limerock and VIR. Turner Motor-sports Grand-Am GT win at Mid-Ohio and 2nd at Daytona.
2009 American LeMans Series GT - Rahal-Letterman Racing, Bill Auberlen Co-Driver, two podium finishes and one pole including 1st at Road America & 3rd at Limerock Park. Also drove for Turner Motorsports in the Koni Challenge Series resulting in four podium trips, 1st at Limerock, 2nd at New Jersey, 3rd at The Glen.
2008 Grand-Am Rolex Sportscar Series DP - Ruby Tuesday Championship Racing / Alex Job Racing, Bill Auberlen co-driver. Seven top-ten finishes including 2nd in Miami, 3rd in New Jersey and 4th at historic Watkins Glen.
2007 American LeMans Series GT - One podium with Panoz Team PTG; Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series DP - three races with Luggage Express Team Sigalsport; KONI Challenge Series GS - two wins (VIR, Miller Motorsports Park) with Turner Motorsports; SPEED World Challenge Touring Car - one win (Mid-Ohio) with BimmerWorld.

For 2013 Joey will be returning to the ALMS Series and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing for a limited schedule. Joey will once again be paired with co-champion Dirk Mueller in the #56 BMW Z4. The season begins with the 61st running of the 12 hours of Sebring. -
