- 4/25/2005 - Anchor Racing returns to California
for round four of the Grand Am Cup Series at Laguna Seca. Due to
racing conflicts with the NASCAR Nextel Cup series, Joey Hand will
be stepping in for ace driver, Boris Said. "We wish Boris well
and we will be cheering him on after our victories," reported team
owner, John Munson. Hand and Said were former teammates in 2004,
running a BMW M3 for BMW Team PTG in the Rolex Grand-American
Road Racing Series. In 2005, Hand is only one of two BMW factory
drivers in North America and feels honored to hold this prestigious
title with teammate Bill Auberlen. "I've never raced a stock M3
before. It's all new to me, but Boris has given me a few hints
for this race," said Hand, a native of Sacramento, California. "It
should be a fun race. Especially, since I will be competing against
my PTG teammates (Bill Auberlen, Justin Marks, Kelly Collins, and
Tom Milner)." Hand looks forward to racing at his home track where
he will receive plenty of support from his friends and family during
the race weekend.
Following a
third place finish at Fontana, Anders Hainer is ready to take
the win in his No. 99 Anchor Racing/ UnderArmour/ BMW M3 . "I'm looking forward for our team to continue to build on the
success we had at California Speedway," said Hainer. "With 3 cars
in the top 11, we did quite well, considering the rough start of
the season at the two first events. Unfortunately, Boris will not
be able to make it to this next event, due to NASCAR driving commitments,
and he will really be missed on the team. I will be driving with
Joey Hand instead, and we are very fortunate that he is able to
fill in for Boris. Joey is a very fast and talented driver, so
we should hopefully be able to do some great things at Laguna.
More than anything, I'm just looking forward to having fun - It's
a great track, and John Munson has put such a good team in place,
so I'm hoping for a very good weekend," Hainer reported.
"We are very excited to race at historic Laguna Seca," commented
Munson. "I was there this month to get some track time on this
historic course. We are excited about our prospects at Laguna and
we are looking forward to improving upon our California results." James
Sofronas will be sharing driving duties with Munson while Rick
Skelton and Joe Foster will be piloting the No. 93 Anchor Racing/
Hyper Sport Engineering/BMW M3. Along with the three BMW M3s in
the GS class, Anchor Racing will field the No. 72 BMW 330 in the
Grand Am Cup ST class with drivers John Munson, Tim Probert and
David Scott. The debut of the No. 72 Anchor Racing/BMW 330 at Fontana
was delayed due to mechanical issues during qualifying. However,
the No. 72 is in top form for the 200-mile race and the three drivers
are excited to compete in the world-renowned 2.238-mile, 11 turn
road course on April 29-May 1.
Anchor Racing is dedicated to winning the Grand Am Cup Championship
in both the GS and ST classes. The silver BMW M3s will be sporting
their official team sponsors: Anchor Group, Hyper-Sport Engineering
( www.hyper-sport.net ),
Under Armour ( www.underarmour.com ) , Anchor Mortgage Corporation.
